Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Formation
- The process of becoming a certified Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Catechist is both intense and beautiful. Adults seeking certification attend approximately 16 days of formation with a CGSUSA-Certified Formation Leader who has extensive experience in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd method.
  
  While the time commitment may feel daunting at first, those who participate consistently share that the experience is deeply rewarding. Many find that they learn just as much, if not more, than the children, as the adult formation courses offer a profound spiritual depth that strengthens faith, prayer, and understanding of God’s work in the life of the child.
  
  As Saint Andrew continues to grow its Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, adult formation remains an essential part of nurturing a strong, prayerful catechetical community rooted in Scripture, liturgy, and the life of the Church.

Level 1 Part 1 - Adult Formation
- Formation Course for Catechists of Children Ages 3–6

  Schedule: 9:15 AM – 4:15 PM daily
  Daily Mass: 12:00 noon
  All dates are required. Light breakfast, snacks, and lunch are provided. Childcare is not available.
  Registration Details
  Priority registration for Saint Andrew parishioners
  Remaining spots filled on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum of 15 participants
  Registration confirmation sent at latest April 30, including course feed and payment instructions
  
  Course Objectives
  To present the methodology and guiding principles of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for the 3-6-year-old child as provided by Sofia Cavalletti and Gianni Gobbi.
  To explore the religious nature and most vital needs of the 3-6 year-old child.
  To meditate on the biblical and liturgical themes presented in the 3-6 year-old atrium.
  To broaden your ability to observe and learn from the children, to better listen to the scriptures with the children, and to deepen your own enjoyment of God.
  To facilitate meditation upon the biblical and liturgical themes of the Catechesis.
  To offer guidelines and assistance to catechists in setting up an atrium for 3-6 year olds, preparing an album, and making materials.
  
  Formation Leader - Sr. Monica Vianney Le, OP
  Sr. Monica is a Dominican Sister of the Mary Immaculate Province in Houston, Texas. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theology and Mental Health from Franciscan University of Steubenville and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies with an emphasis in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd from Aquinas Institute of Theology. Certified as a Level I Formation Leader in 2018, she currently works in Level I and II atria with children at Saint Andrew Catholic School.

  Participants must have completed Level I CGS Formation and Level II Part 1 before registering for this course

  Course Objectives
  To explore with participants the general developmental and religious characteristics of the 6-9 year old child.
  To facilitate meditation upon the biblical and liturgical themes of the Catechesis.
  To offer guidelines and assistance to catechists in setting up an atrium for 6-9 year olds, preparing an album, and making materials.
  To deepen participants’ ability to observe and learn from children, while also exploring avenues for deepening parental and congregational ability to observe and learn from children.
  
  Formation Leader - Sr. Theresa Josephine Do, OP
  
  Sr. Theresa Josephine is a Dominican Sister of Mary Immaculate Province, based in Houston, Texas. She holds CGS certifications at Levels I, II, and III, a Bachelor’s degree in Theology, and a Master’s in Theological Studies. Since 2019, she has been certified as a Formation Leader, training adults in Levels I and II.
  She currently serves as a catechist at Saint Catherine’s Montessori in Houston, TX. Born in Vietnam, she came to the U.S. as a refugee at age 15 and has been a catechist since 1992, focusing on guiding children through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd since 2011.
