Epiphany Home Blessing

There is a Catholic Tradition whereby families bless their homes as a witness of their faith and protection against evil on the feast of the Epiphany.

Blessed chalk can be obtained from the Parish at the Masses on the Feast of the Epiphany, January 7, 2024.

PRAYER OF BLESSING FOR THE HOME:

Let us pray.
O Lord, Almighty God, bless this house that it may become a shelter of health, chastity, self-conquest, humility, goodness, mildness, obedience to the commandments, and thanksgiving to God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Upon this house and those who dwell herein, may Your blessing remain forever through Christ our Lord.

To bless your home,
take a chalk and write the initials of the three wise men, connected with crosses, over the inside of your front door. Try to write it on the lintel. Then, write the year, breaking up the numbers and the year so that they fall on both sides of the initials. It should look like this:

It should look like this: 20 C + M + B 24 The "20" refers to the millennium and century, while the "C" stands for the first wise man, Caspar. The "M" stands for Melchior, and the "B" stands for Balthasar. Lastly, the "24" stands for the decade and year. It is also believed that the kings' initials "Christus Mansionem Benedicat" means "Christ bless this house".
